§ Mr. G. Macdonaldasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that ex-miners who have been directed back to the coal industry and have failed to perform the duties assigned to them, on returning to the industry or factory they left have been refused the jobs they had and have been asked to accept work at a lower wage; and whether he is prepared to take such action as will prevent the continuance of such a practice?
§ Mr. BevinMy hon. Friend has brought one such case to my notice in which the man concerned unsuccessfully contested on medical grounds a direction to return to coal-mining and then fell sick for about six weeks. He had not entered on coal-mining employment, and when he recovered from his illness was found to be medically unfit for it. I am communicating with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply with regard to the question of his re-instatement at the Royal Ordnance Factory.
