HC Deb 21 January 1942 vol 377 c368W
Major Lyons

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is satisfied with the response made by all concerned to the despatch, of 9th September last, addressed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to all Colonial Governments on the necessity for savings; and whether he can indicate what that response has been in terms of co-operation by all colonial territories?

Mr. George Hall

As I indicated to my hon. and gallant Friend in my reply of 16th December, no despatch was addressed to Colonial Governments on 9th September. The latest despatch on this subject was dated 5th June, and was signed by my Noble Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies, who alone is responsible for communications to Colonial Governments. I have nothing to add to the reply to which I have referred.
