HC Deb 21 January 1942 vol 377 cc359-60W
Mr. Riley

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what are the grounds on which the Southern Rhodesian Government impose a licence fee of £10 per annum on itinerant hawkers who sell soap, matches and other commodities; and, has he any information as to the approximate takings of an itinerant pedlar from the sale of such articles?

Mr. Shakespeare

I have no relevant information to add to the reply given to the hon. Member on the 17th December. The Southern Rhodesian law involves no discrimination between Europeans and natives and is therefore entirely within the competence of the Southern Rhodesia Government. The hon. Member's inquiries will, however, be communicated to them.
