HC Deb 21 January 1942 vol 377 c379W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Information what instructions have been given to the British Broadcasting Corporation to avoid the word "German" in broadcasts and to use the term "Nazi"?

Mr. Bracken

None, Sir.

Sir P. Hurd

asked the Minister of Information what further communications he has received from the British Broadcasting Corporation regarding public protests against passages in the original script of the broadcast plays on the life of Jesus which offended Christian feeling?

Mr. Bracken

The Governors of the B.B.C. have informed me that they have accepted the recommendation made by their Central Religious Advisory Committee which meets under the Chairmanship of the Bishop of Winchester and contains representatives of the principal churches in the country. The recommendation was that the broadcasts should continue. I am also informed that a number of alterations to the original scripts are being considered.
