§ Squadron-Leader Erringtonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of soap rationing, he will make special arrangements for the supply of soap, etc., for dockers who have, from day to day, to change from dirty commodities to food and other cargoes requiring handling under clean conditions?
Major Lloyd GeorgeThe soap rationing scheme makes provision for industries which have hitherto supplied soap for their workers being able to continue to buy soap for that purpose. The need for a special supply for classes of workers not covered by this arrangement will be considered.
§ Squadron-Leader Erringtonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether residents over five days in hotels, etc., are compelled to give up soap coupons to the management thereof and receive soap from them; and, if so, what steps can be taken to ensure that individual special requirements of medicated or other soap can be supplied?
Major Lloyd GeorgeThe answer to the first part of my hon. and gallant Friend's Question is in the affirmative so far as rationed soap is concerned. The special requirements of invalids, whether living in hotels or otherwise, are being examined.
§ Mr. Douglasasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the fact that charts showing the varying hardness of the water throughout Great Britain are already in existence and are used for practical commercial purposes, he will consider a readjustment of the soap ration so as to take account of the hardness of the water?
Major Lloyd GeorgeI regret that I can see no way of devising a satisfactory scheme of differential soap rations dependent upon the hardness of water.
