HC Deb 24 February 1942 vol 378 cc35-6W
Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Air why one of the qualifica- tions for appointment, as police officers in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force is that they must not be total abstainers but moderate drinkers?

Sir A. Sinclair

The explanation is that the duties which the W.A.A.F. Police are called on to perform are such that they must be able to mix freely with airwomen in all environments. It is thought that they can best do this if they are not total abstainers. The rule is not, however, rigidly applied.
