HC Deb 24 February 1942 vol 378 c33W
Mr. Salt

asked the Secretary of State for War what arrangements there are to. deal with soldiers who are discharged from the Army owing to serious mental defects; and to what institutions they are sent when their condition is such that they cannot safely be cared for in their own homes?

Mr. Sandys

Before being discharged from the Army soldiers suffering from serious mental defects are given a period of treatment in suitable military institutions, with the object of restoring them' to such a degree of mental health as will permit of their being sent to their homes on discharge. Those who still cannot safely be cared for in their own homes are transferred to appropriate civil institutions.
