HC Deb 19 February 1942 vol 377 cc1908-9W
Mr. McNeil

asked the Minister of Labour why youths of Eton school were permitted to register within the school, while other youths ordinarily registered at the local employment exchange; and why, if he thought a registration point within Eton school necessary, other youths from the area surrounding the school were not also registered within the school?

Mr. Bevin

This arrangement was made by the Buckinghamshire Education Authority, which undertook the responsibility for registration in its area. The general instructions issued by my Department provided that, where such a course was found to be convenient, registration could be carried out at employers' premises or at schools or other institutions, such as remand homes, instead of at the exchange or juvenile employment bureau. A similar arrangement was made by the authority for boys employed at a war factory in their area.
