HC Deb 19 February 1942 vol 377 c1910W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether satisfactory progress is shown in the expansion of local produce committees and allotment associations since, with the object of securing maximum domestic food production of every kind and economising tonnage, it is no longer necessary to obtain permission from the local authority or landlord for the erection of houses or equipment for stock; and whether it is intended to authorise such associations to take steps for the utilisation of uncultivated and derelict large gardens of housing estates and similar unused land?

Mr. Hudson

The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." As regards the second part, local authorities, with my consent, can take possession of uncultivated gardens in suitable cases for cultivation by individuals or associations as allotments.
