HC Deb 19 February 1942 vol 377 c1919W
Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Health whether his Department receives information from medical officers of health regarding cases of diphtheria and deaths from that disease occurring in immunised children; and, if not, what other information the officials of his Department receive as to the occurrence of such cases and deaths?

Mr. E. Brown

Returns which local authorities are asked to furnish periodically regarding immunisation of children against diphtheria show the number of cases of diphtheria notified during the period concerned and the number of these cases in which the child had received a full course of inoculation. Deaths attributed to diphtheria are recorded in the usual course by the Registrar-General; the notification of death does not provide for information as to immunisation.

Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Health how many cases of diphtheria, and deaths from that disease, have been recorded in Leicester in each of the years 1932 to 1941?

Mr. Brown

I am making inquiries and will communicate further with my hon. Friend.
