asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what, at any suitable date before 1st September, 1939, was the acreage under cultivation in Islay and the remainder of Argyllshire, respectively; and what now is the acreage under cultivation in these two areas?

Mr. Johnston

The acreages under tillage in Islay and in the remainder of Argyllshire as at 4th June, 1939, were 4,246 acres and 16,535 acres respectively. The corresponding figures as at 4th June, 1941, were 4,976 and 21,577 acres.
