HC Deb 10 February 1942 vol 377 c1414W
Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the number of soldiers who have availed themselves of the opportunity of claiming war service grants since the new scheme came into being; and whether he is satisfied that this number shows that the scheme has received the publicity necessary to make it a success?

Mr. Paling

I have been asked to reply. The total number of claims received from members of the three Fighting Services since the new scheme was announced is about 127,000; and fresh claims are coming in at the rate of 8,000 a week. The many forms of publicity which have been employed to make the scheme known are being continued and extended.
