HC Deb 04 February 1942 vol 377 cc1200-1W
Dr. Morgan

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has considered the recommendation of the Legislative Sub-committee of the Franchise Committee of Trinidad, that teachers should be permitted to take an active part in politics; whether the regulation by which the civic rights and privileges were withheld from teachers under the Education Code of Trinidad (1938) will be rescinded; and whether similar advantages will be extended to teachers in other West Indies islands?

Mr. George Hall

My Noble Friend has received no information as to this recommendation. I can assure the hon. Member that the question will be carefully considered when the full report of the Franchise Committee is received, if it forms one of their recommendations; and I am causing inquiries to be made with regard to the regulation in the code to which the hon. Member refers.
