HC Deb 04 February 1942 vol 377 c1191W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will take steps to see that more care is taken in future by those responsible for sending members of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force to the Clard Street Canteen, Morecambe; whether he is aware that on 20th January a note was sent on behalf of the chief training officer to the volunteers running the canteen to expect 250 girls at 10 o'clock the following morning; that although tea, coffee and cocoa were ready and 14 volunteers waiting not a girl turned up and that this is a repetition of what has occurred every Wednesday recently without even a word of regret being expressed; and whether an improvement can be expected?

Sir A. Sinclair

I regret that owing to misunderstandings the organisers of this canteen were recently inconvenienced in the way referred to and instructions have been issued which, it is hoped, will avoid a recurrence of the incidents. I am informed that on each occasion an apology was tendered.
