§ Mr. Priceasked the Minister of Supply whether his attention has been called to the case of Mr. C. W. Monk, who is assistant in the Research Department of the 2114W Ministry of Supply and who is now to be retired without a pension after years' of service; and whether he will exercise his discretionary powers by permitting Mr. Monk to continue as a laboratory assistant until he reaches the age of 65 and so qualifies for a pension?
§ Mr. AsshetonThe retention of Mr. Monk until May, 1943, when he would become 65, had been approved, but he voluntarily resigned his appointment and ceased duty on the 30th November, 1942. Mr. Monk is eligible for the grant of a gratuity under the Superannuation Act, 1887, but could not qualify for a pension, since he was too old for establishment when a scheme for the grant of establishment and pensionability was applied (in 1936) to the grade of laboratory assistant.
