HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 cc1944-5W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Minister of Information whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that a supply of special notes on prisoners of war, sent by the publicity department of the Red Cross and St. John War Organisation, London, to the county president of that organisation in County Down,. Northern Ireland, was returned to the sender by his Department on the grounds that these notes had not been passed by the censor; and can he state the reason for this action?

Mr. Bracken

Yes, Sir. Those who hold a permit to do so can send printed matter to Northern Ireland provided they affix the special permit label to the parcel. I am afraid that the Red Cross and St. John War Organisation failed to do so on this occasion and consequently the parcel was returned to them by the Post Office.
