HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 c1951W
Mr. Oldfield

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he has considered the need to increase the use of the canals between Leigh, Barton, Stretford, Sale and Manchester, in particular, and other parts through which the canals run; and will he make a statement?

Mr. Noel-Baker

Every effort is being made to increase the traffic on the canals, including the Bridgewater Canal, up to the limit of their capacity. If my hon. Friend will give more particulars of the traffic he has in mind, I will be happy to look into the matter.
