HC Deb 15 December 1942 vol 385 c1806W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what is the composition of the present national loaf with special reference to the proportion it contains of the whole wheat grain, the wheat germ, chemically bleached flour of 70 per cent. to 75 per cent. extraction, synthetic vitamins, chalk and cereals others than wheat, respectively?

Mr. Mabane

The present national loaf is made from national flour which is milled at an extraction of 85 per cent., calculated on the products obtained from the whole wheat. No synthetic vitamins are added to national flour, nor, up to the present, have cereals, other than wheat, been used. With regard to the other substances mentioned, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave him on 30th September last.
