§ Mr. J. Wilmotasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now make a statement regarding the refusal of Mr. L. C. Dungey, hop-grower of Headcorn, Kent, to pay to a hop-picker employed by him the balance of wages earned, of which he has been sent particulars; and whether he will take steps regarding the harsh conditions of employment imposed and purporting to be approved by the National Farmers' Union?
Mr. HudsonI understand that the balance of wages earned by this hop-picker, part of which had been withheld by reason of non-compliance with the terms of the employment, will be paid. The terms under which particular workers are engaged by employers are a matter for the parties concerned, and are not approved by the National Farmers' Union.
