HC Deb 15 December 1942 vol 385 c1794W
Mr. J. Wilmot

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now make a statement regarding the refusal of Mr. L. C. Dungey, hop-grower of Headcorn, Kent, to pay to a hop-picker employed by him the balance of wages earned, of which he has been sent particulars; and whether he will take steps regarding the harsh conditions of employment imposed and purporting to be approved by the National Farmers' Union?

Mr. Hudson

I understand that the balance of wages earned by this hop-picker, part of which had been withheld by reason of non-compliance with the terms of the employment, will be paid. The terms under which particular workers are engaged by employers are a matter for the parties concerned, and are not approved by the National Farmers' Union.
