HC Deb 10 December 1942 vol 385 cc1718-9W
Mr. Liddall

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that to enable them to meet the increased cost of living serving prison officers receive a war bonus, he will consider granting a war bonus to retired prison officers?

Captain Crookshank

No, Sir. Retired prison officers cannot be treated differently from other Civil Service pensioners. It has been repeatedly stated that His Majesty's Government were not prepared to introduce legislation for the purpose of increasing Civil Service and other pensions and the reasons for this decision were fully explained on the Motion for the Adjournment on 15th October last.
