HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1175W
Mr. Denman

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether reasonable expenses of removal, to avoid total loss, of goods from premises of which the roof has been destroyed by enemy action are payable as a claim under the chattels insurance scheme, in cases where the expense of total loss would largely exceed that of removal?

Mr. Dalton

In cases such as those which my hon. Friend has in mind, financial assistance is given by the local authorities to persons who remove their goods from damaged premises. Where the expenses of removal have not been so recovered, the Board of Trade reimburse these expenses if they are satisfied that the removal was undertaken to avoid further damage to the goods and that the expenses were reasonable.
