HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1178W
Sir J. Jarvis

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he will take steps to see that, wherever practicable, omnibuses begin and end their journeys in or near railway station yards and thus save inconvenience to the public travelling by railway and omnibus?

Mr. Noel-Baker

The Regional Transport Commissioners arrange for the coordination of passenger transport services by road and by rail and, wherever practicable, they give instructions that omnibuses shall stop at or near railway stations. I have examined the two cases to which my hon. Friend has drawn my attention. Arrangements will shortly be completed for the Guildford-Cranleigh omnibus service to pick up passengers in the station yard at Guildford. On the Godalming-Dunsford service, I am not satisfied that there is adequate justification for the additional mileage which would be involved, since, if the omnibuses went to the railway station, their route would be extended by half-a-mile.
