HL Deb 01 December 1942 vol 125 c342WA
VISCOUNT BLEDISLOE

asked His Majesty's Government, whether they are aware that essential personnel of the Civil Defence Services are being conscripted into the Home Guard without reference to the needs of the invasion committees concerned and whether they can ensure that such conscription shall not be made without the consent of the invasion committee being first obtained.

LORD SNELL

Directions to enrol in the Home Guard are not issued to whole-time or to effective part-time members of the Civil Defence Services. I understand that some difficulty has arisen in one area owing to the enrolment of a few members of fire-guard parties. This action was taken because it appeared after inquiry that these men were not effective members of the National Fire Service.

House adjourned.
