HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 cc1219-20W
Sir L. Lyle

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the announcement, under concentration of industry, that certain groups of firms must pool their products without any identification or trade mark, he will approve generous advertisement charges as business expenses, since advertising is the only way in which firms forced into the pool can maintain their goodwill and keep their products before the public?

Sir K. Wood

My hon. Friend will appreciate that I am unable to authorise the allowance of advertising expenditure in the computation of profits for taxation purposes beyond what is admissible under the relevant provisions of the law.
