HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 cc1212-3W
Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the General Medical Council is refusing to enter on the Medical Register, under the Temporary Registration Order (No. 2), 1941, medical men who hold Indian medical diplomas and have for many years been in the Indian Medical Department or commissions as medical officers in the Indian Army; and whether, in view of the shortage of doctors and the admission to the Medical Register of aliens of enemy nationality, he will take steps to utilise the skill of these doctors from India?

Mr. E. Brown

I am making inquiries, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend.

Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the town of Watchet, in Somerset, has no medical man; and whether he will take the necessary steps to see that adequate service is provided?

Mr. Brown

I am informed that there is one medical man remaining in the town and that the local medical war committee considers that with the assistance of neighbouring doctors an adequate medical service can be maintained.
