HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1202W
Captain De Chair

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the fact that much additional work must now fall on the already depleted staffs of accountants in agricultural areas in view of the inclusion of new categories of farmers in the Income Tax, he will consider deferring the transfer to other labour of women clerks employed in this connection?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir. In view of the urgent demands for women for the Services and vital war work I cannot agree that all clerical workers employed by accountants acting for farmers should be deferred. The District Man-Power Board must decide each case upon its merits.
