HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 c1054W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food, approximately how many acres of potatoes of last year's crop have never been lifted and whether he can give details for Ayrshire and Wigtownshire?

Mr. T. Williams

I have been asked to reply. So far as England and Wales are concerned, very few cases of failure to lift potatoes of last year's crop have been brought to notice, and in each case appropriate action has been taken. As regards the Scottish counties mentioned, I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that he is not aware of any cases of this kind, but he is making inquiries.
