HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 cc1053-4W
Captain Plugge

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food how many local authorities have hitherto made a loss on communal restaurants and how many have made a profit?

Mr. Mabane

Trading accounts for the year 1941–42 in respect of British Restaurants have so far been received from 322 local authorities, approximately 75 per cent. of those operating such restaurants at 31st March, 1942. Losses are shown by 160 authorities and profits by 1162. The trading accounts do not include provision for repayment of capital expenditure. Of the 160 authorities showing a loss, 100 have been operating their restaurants for less than six months.
