HC Deb 04 August 1942 vol 382 c866W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what is the approximate amount of coal used directly or indirectly which would be saved if double summer time were extended for a further six weeks this year?

Major Lloyd George

It is not possible to give exact figures of the amount of coal which would be saved if double summer time were extended for a further period. I am informed, however, that whilst some saving would be effected for a week or two the saving at night would soon be offset by additional consumption in the morning.
