HC Deb 11 September 1941 vol 374 cc329-30W
Mr. Benjamin Smith

asked the Home Secretary whether any relaxation of the Lighting Restrictions Order is contemplated?

Mr. H. Morrison

The Government has carefully reviewed the Lighting Restrictions Order in relation to experience gained. Admittedly the present restrictions, cause some difficulties for drivers of motor vehicles, but, on the other hand, the degree of risk of aiding the enemy in his air attacks has to be taken into account. Following upon the review to which I have referred I am amending the Order so as to enable drivers of motor vehicles to utilise if they wish two masked headlamps made to the existing specification each giving a light of the maximum intensity at present permitted for a single masked headlamp and to show more light from their rear lamp. Until the amending Order is made the existing Order must be observed. The continuance of these relaxations will, however, be reconsidered if conditions should require.
