§ Mr. BevinUp to a recent date 47 workers had been prosecuted for failing to obey directions issued by National Service Officers to take up work which they were considered to be capable of performing. In four cases the summonses were withdrawn, and one case was dismissed under the Probation of Offenders Act; in 30 cases penalties of fines or imprisonment were imposed; the remaining three cases were adjourned on the offenders taking up the work to which they were directed. Proceedings are pending in a further 68 cases.
