HC Deb 09 September 1941 vol 374 c51W
Sir L. Lyle

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can make any statement on the results of the harvest, especially in relation to the food supply of the nation and the provision of winter feeding-stuffs for animals?

Mr. Hudson

It is too early to make a definite statement on the results of the harvest, which has been retarded by unfavourable weather, but I expect them to show a striking expansion of production. The efforts of the farming community this season will have the dual effect of adding very materially to our supplies of staple foods, whilst guaranteeing a high degree of self-sufficiency in winter feeding-stuffs for animals.
