HC Deb 21 October 1941 vol 374 cc1641-2W
Mr. G. Macdonald

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will cause inquiries to be made as to why it is that so many men and women of military age, employed at the various greyhound tracks in and about London, have not been called up for military service?

Mr. Bevin

No reservation or deferment is provided for occupations in greyhound racing, and it is not intended that any persons of military age should be retained in civil life for such employment. I understand that some men who are reserved in respect of their main occupation may be employed outside their ordinary working hours on the race tracks as a subsidiary occupation.
