HC Deb 21 October 1941 vol 374 c1648W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Home Secretary whether, in fixing the curfew arrangements for entertainments during the coming winter, regard will be paid to similarity of treatment under which dance halls and similar places of amusements will be placed on the same plane as theatres and cinemas?

Mr. Mabane

The considerations which apply to cinemas and theatres do not apply to premises used for dancing and I cannot undertake that the same closing hour will always be fixed for both. Premises used for dancing are not subject to the general closing hour laid down by the Public Entertainments (Restriction) Order, except in Central London, but chief officers of police are empowered to prohibit or restrict the use of such premises when it appears necessary to minimise risk from enemy action.
