HC Deb 29 May 1941 vol 371 c2007W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Home Secretary whether he can arrange for timber salvaged from houses damaged by enemy action not to be burnt on bonfires, but that such wood may be available for firewood to householders in the district?

Mr. H. Morrison

Local authorities have already been authorised to make arrangements whereby small quantities of broken timber which is valueless may be collected personally free of charge by local householders for their own private use. Regional salvage officers have recently been asked to remind local authorities of the need for such arrangements.
