§ Mr. GrenfellThe Mines Department is aware of the extent to which stocks have1088W been depleted in various parts of the country and we are now engaged upon a programme for increasing production so as to enable stocks to be set aside during the summer and thus to provide for the needs of all classes of consumers during next winter. The general plan is designed to lay aside greater reserves of coal than we had at the beginning of last winter. The main problem now is to secure a sufficient increase of output to enable these stocks to be built up.
