§ Sir R. Gowerasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the increase in juvenile delinquency, he can state the sums expended in combating this increase and, in particular, the allowances granted to institutions specialising on the scientific treatment of delinquency?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonIt would be impracticable to cumpute with any accuracy the additional cost of public funds caused by the increase of juvenile offences, but, leaving aside expenses connected with the police and the courts, there has been a substantial increase in the cost of the probation service, remand homes and approved schools. I have no information as to expenditure incurred in pyschological treatment.
