HC Deb 08 May 1941 vol 371 cc986-7W
Mr. Gallacher

asked the Home Secretary what is being done to compensate British subjects evacuated from Gibraltar, the Channel Islands and other territories outside Great Britain to this country for the loss of furniture and personal belongings?

Mr. H. Morrison

I regret that His Majesty's Government cannot undertake any liability in respect of property left in the Channel Islands.

The case of Gibraltar is not parallel, but I understand that no proposals have been received from the Gibraltar Government for compensating British subjects evacuated to this country from Gibraltar for the loss of the property they were unable to take with them.
