Mr. Robertsonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food 1297W whether he will consider, in the interests of the war effort, and of the butchers, the compulsory closing of all retail butchers' shops on three weekdays each week, the remaining days being ample for the sale of present and prospective supplies of meat?
Major Lloyd GeorgeButchers' shops are already closed on one or more days in the week in a number of districts by voluntary arrangement among the butchers themselves, and I would prefer to leave the arrangements to voluntary local decision in the light of local conditions rather than impose them by compulsory order.
