§ Lieut.-Commander Tufnellasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that coupons have to be sur- 804W rendered for the white coats and overalls of the waiters and kitchen staff at the various Cambridge colleges; that these staffs have to look after those billeted on the college as well as on the members of the colleges; and whether, since these overalls are purely for working purposes, he will, so far as their supply is concerned, place the staff on the same footing as workers in other forms of activity who have not to surrender coupons?
§ Sir A. DuncanSpecial occupational needs are being considered in the discussions mentioned in the reply given by my predecessor to the hon. Member for West Fife (Mr. Gallacher) and others on 24th June. I cannot, however, admit that the use of overalls is in itself a reason for a concession.
§ Mr. Manderasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has now been able to make arrangements authorising established groups of knitters who have been sending, and desire to send, comforts to individuals in the Navy and Royal Air Force direct, to obtain wool coupons free; and whether he will consider placing on the local authority, or some other appropriate body, the responsibility for approving the reliability and integrity of such comfort-knitting groups?
§ Sir A. DuncanThe details are still under discussion with the Service Departments and others concerned. My Hon. Friend's suggestion will be borne in mind.
