Lyleasked the Home Secretary whether, as doubt still exists as to the powers of local authorities in the case of buildings which are completely demolished, to take girders away for scrap-iron purposes in factories or to use them elsewhere in the construction of emergency buildings, he will make a statement on the whole subject?
§ Mr. MabaneLocal authorities have already been authorised to enter upon the sites of demolished buildings and they may take away girders and other materials which are of value for emergency repairs of roads and buildings, or the building of shelters. The question of disposal of steel for other purposes is a matter for the iron and steel control of the Ministry of Supply.
