§ Sir R. Gowerasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, as representing the Ministry of Food, whether, if people withhold edible articles such as poultry and rabbits because of the controlled prices, he will consider taking powers to requisition these commodities wherever they may be found and to pay for them at such controlled prices?
Major Lloyd GeorgeMy Noble Friend has now made an Order fixing maximum prices for poultry from the producer to the consumer. In addition, maximum wholesale prices were recently fixed for826W rabbits supplementary to the retail prices which were fixed some time ago. My Noble Friend is of opinion that these prices are such as to encourage the flow of poultry and rabbits. I might add that my Noble Friend already has the powers of requisition which it is suggested that he should take. The compensation for the property so requisitioned is payable in accordance with the provisions of the Compensation (Defence) Act, 1939.
