HC Deb 09 December 1941 vol 376 c1406W
Mr. Sloan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the increasing number of milk cows that are being purchased in Scotland and sent to England; and, in view of the milk shortage in Scotland, whether he will prevent the exportation of milk cows from Scotland?

Mr. Johnston

While the purchase of milk cows in Scotland for use in England is a normal feature of the live stock trade, and the numbers of cows in Scotland in June, 1941, particularly young dairy stock, showed an increase over the year before, I am making special inquiries into the present position in the light of milk supply difficulties in Scotland.
