HC Deb 09 December 1941 vol 376 cc1398-9W
Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Secretary for Mines to what extent have the losses of certain colliery companies been borne by his Department; and the latest available figures.

Mr. Grenfell

In a very small number of wholly exceptional cases the Mines Department has found it necessary, in order to maintain production, to undertake to give financial assistance in the working of collieries. It is not possible at present to give an estimate of the charge which may be involved.
