HC Deb 04 December 1941 vol 376 cc1275-6W
Sir F. Sanderson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the resentment among personnel of the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service that they should be asked to give up 18 coupons for a uniform which is being supplied, especially in view of the fact that, had the uniforms been provided when promised, they would have been issued before coupons were introduced; and will he give this matter his consideration with a view to allowing these uniforms to be issued coupon free?

Captain Waterhouse

I understand that full-time personnel of the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service will receive a greatcoat, serge uniform and footwear. Failure to collect coupons from the wearers would result in their being substantially better off in the matter of clothing than the rest of the community. Such a result could not be justified in equity or on supply grounds. The system and rate of collecting coupons applied to the L.A.A.S. is identical with that for other wearers of essential uniform.
