HC Deb 02 December 1941 vol 376 cc1009-10W
Dr. Peters

asked the Secretary for Petroleum whether he will take steps to stop persons owning two or more motorcars from licensing both or all such motor-cars and using the petrol obtained for those motor-cars in one motor-car only; and whether he will have a needs test imposed in cases where more than one motor-car is being used by a person or his family?

Mr. Lloyd

It is already an offence to use in any private motor-cars petrol obtained by the surrender of coupons not issued for those particular cars. I do not think it would be expedient to adopt the suggestion in the latter part of my Ron. Friend's Question.

Dr. Peters

asked the Secretary for Petroleum what steps he proposes to take to ascertain those persons who are using in their private motor-cars petrol granted for use in lorries, tractors, or for purposes other than for use in private motor-cars; and whether he will have petrol supplied for such purposes coloured so as to enable the police to make investigations and prosecute offenders?

Mr. Lloyd

In conjunction with the Ministry of Transport, all practicable steps are being taken to check abuses of the kind to which my hon. Friend refers. The suggestion in the latter part of the Question is receiving further consideration.
