§ Sir R. Gowerasked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied that the credentials of all the candidates on the Central Register and Supplementary Register have now been thoroughly examined; and whether there is much likelihood of further employment through that agency?
§ Mr. BevinNo person is placed on the Central or Supplementary Register unless he or she appearsprima facie to possess the necessary qualifications but my hon. Friend will appreciate that in a certain number of cases prospective employers may not be prepared to engage particular candidates owing to their advanced age or other disabilities. At present about 1,200 vacancies each month are filled from these registers and I see no reason why this should not continue. The number of persons on the two registers known to be unemployed is under 11,000.
