§ Mr. BevinThe Government consider that in the interests of production, as well as on other grounds, workers should have a periodical day off each week, except where the urgent requirements of production make such a break impracticable on some special occasion. The day off should usually be Sunday, but under some shift systems or where seven-day working of machine tools or other machinery is necessary some corresponding break should be arranged by rota. Where women and persons under 18 are concerned, the hours provisions of the Factory Acts must be observed, and authority for working hours other than those normally prescribed by the Acts sought from the Factory Inspectorate.
