HC Deb 02 April 1941 vol 370 cc1013-4W
Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that, in many instances, persons who are getting disablement benefits under the National Health Acts find them insufficient to live on and apply to the Poor Law relief for assistance, and when they do so, the income of their married children is taken into consideration by the authorities; and will he consider removing the family and household means test, and increase benefits?

Miss Horsbrugh

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend is of course aware that some persons in receipt of disablement benefit find it necessary to apply to the public assistance authority for further assistance, but he has no information as to the number of such cases. He is not yet in a position to make a statement on the matters raised in the last part of the Question.

Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Health how many were on National Health Insurance disablement benefit during the year 1940, and what were the figures for the months of January and February this year?

Miss Horsbrugh

My right hon. Friend regrets that the information asked for by my hon. Friend is not available.
