HC Deb 02 April 1941 vol 370 cc1021-2W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what quantity of industrial spirit was produced in the United Kingdom during 1940 and during 1939, respectively;

(2) what quantities of industrial alcohol were produced in the United Kingdom during the years 1938, 1939 and 1940, respectively; and what steps are taken, when a firm stops producing industrial alcohol, to ensure that its remaining stocks of raw materials are made available for other processes of national importance in relation to the war effort?

Captain Crookshank

It would be contrary to the national interest to publish the figures for which my hon. and learned Friend asks. With regard to the second part of the Question my right hon. Friend understands that the stocks of raw materials remain under the control of the Ministry of Supply and are available for use at other distilleries or for other essential purposes.
